This group covers the non-Asian restaurants, cafes, bars and food businesses that also appear in a mixed-cuisine food scene, including American diners, pizza, Mexican food, burgers, steakhouses and bakeries. Standard US restaurant norms apply: lunch and dinner service with a quieter stretch between, cards and tap-to-pay accepted almost everywhere, and a tip of 15-20% customary for table service. Fast food and quick-service counters expect payment up front and tipping is optional. Bars check ID for anyone who looks under 30, and the drinking age is 21 nationwide. Many restaurants in this group take reservations online through third-party platforms, while casual and fast-food spots are walk-in only. Sales tax is added at the register on top of the menu price and varies by city and state, so the final total is usually a few percent higher than the posted prices suggest.

One of the biggest disappointments I've had in a long time. First of all, how the DANG HECK do you call yourself a Cajun restaurant and have NO SEASONING on your food???? Secondly, when i arrived the whole place smells like feces. I guess they were having plumbing issues. But hey, i was willing to look past that. I got fried chicken with Mac n cheese and yams. It came with a little cornbread muffin, which was the only good thing on the plate. It was buttery, soft, and very sweet, but delicious. The yams were swimming in a thick sugar juice. They were super soft and had no texture. It seems like they poured liquid sugar into a bowl with yams. The Mac and cheese was very disappointing as well. Very soft big noodles, way overcooked, swimming in a cheesy milk. Kraft Mac and cheese has better flavor. Now let's get to the chicken. It was cooked well, it was tender and juicy, but literally no seasoning. It has no taste. It didn't even taste like chicken. It tasted like I was eating air. I'm shocked that this place has so many good reviews. Maybe I caught them on a bad day! Cashier was very nice.

I was in town and trying to figure out where to eat and I'm happy I remembered I haven't had a Po'boy in a while from Cajun Country Cafe. The food is made when we ordered it, fresh. We ordered the catfish salad and a shrimp Po'boy along with peach cobbler and ice cream for dessert. Everything was delicious! Portion sizes were good and I feel that they were generous (always have been) with the shrimp and catfish for the salad. We love this place. The staff was friendly and upbeat. I haven't been here in a while and it's great to see the seating area has expanded. There is also a stage for live music.

DONβT COME HERE unless you want amazing food. Everything we had was so delicious. I got the alligator poβ boy and my wife got the catfish. Mac n cheese? BOMB. Collard Greens? BALLER. The service was excellent. Everyone was very friendly. Music was relaxing. Very clean. 10/10 we will be back.

Cajun Country Cafe popped up first when we checked Google maps for a place to eat while visiting Oxnard's Christmas Tree lane. It had been a while since we had some soul food, so we were up for it. I have 2.5 teenage boys (one is 11), so we got the fried fish sampler and the barbecue sampler. The food was so flavorful -- my kids declared the mac & cheese the best they'd ever had, while I was swooning over the candied yams, and we all thought the fried red snapper and catfish were so delicious with a breading that was not too thick and perfectly crispy. I did not even get to try the hot links, which my kids and husband gobbled up. In spite of how great the food was, it was the vibe that really stood out to me. Cajun Country Cafe is in a nondescript strip mall, but we happened to stop in on Saturday night. While we waited for our order, a dude who we thought was just there by himself having coffee got on the keyboard and was shortly joined by a drummer and guitarist. The live music was such a fun surprise, and a new experience for my entire family. (I tried to upload videos to this review, but Google is not cooperating.) We are definitely coming back!

Amazing southern style cooking skillfully prepared with a lot of care and attention. You can tell that the owner must have a lot of pride in their restaurant. The fried catfish was perfectly cooked and the batter was extremely light and delicate. Not at all greasy or heavy. The collard greens were exceptional, you should definitely give them a try even if you think you don't like greens.
